The Masters of Harmony will once again take a leadership role in supporting choral music education in local schools by organizing and hosting the 5th Annual Young Men’s Harmony Festival at Orange Coast College. The event will be an all-day clinic for young men from high schools throughout Southern California, culminating in a joint performance with the Masters and chapter quartets.
This year's festival will feature the 2004-2005 Far Western District Quartet Champion, O.C. Times, who will serve as section leaders during the day and perform on the evening show. Men-So-Forte, 2004 MBNA Collegiate Quartet Contest finalist from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, will assist with coaching and also appear on the show. Program Chairman Mark Freedkin, Society Music Educator Rick Spencer, Garry Texeira (Gotcha! tenor), Music Educator Greg Lapp and Choral Director Ken Potter will comprise the music faculty. The always-entertaining foursome, Hi-Fidelity, will have a guest spot on the evening show.
The purpose of the event, co-sponsored by the Southern California Vocal Association, is to expose young men and their choral music teachers to the barbershop style and give them an opportunity to experience the joy of “ringing a chord.” All proceeds from the performance will go toward supporting choral music education throughout Southern California.
