Many of us have those “I was there” moments that we look back on fondly as special events in our lives. One such moment for me was the first game of the 1988 World Series, when Kirk Gibson hit the incredible game-winning home run for the Dodgers, with two strikes and two out in the bottom of the ninth inning.

On July 4th, there will be more than the anticipation of crowning a new quartet champion for the Barbershop Harmony Society and more than the fireworks that finish every Independence Day celebration. The Harmony Foundation, which is celebrating their 50th anniversary, is putting together a Harmony Spectacular that you won’t want to miss.
For the first time ever, you will witness a show featuring the best choruses in the world on the International stage… the 2004, 2006 and 2008 champions at the same time! The Ambassadors of Harmony, Masters of Harmony and The Vocal Majority, winners of a combined total of 19 International chorus championships, have agreed to perform on this year’s Harmony Foundation Show. Over 400 voices are guaranteed to raise the roof of the Honda Center in this “must see” event.
In addition, you will be enthralled by the two-time Sweet Adelines gold medal chorus from Anaheim, Harborlites. You will also hear the current quartet champion, OC Times, and cameo appearances by Max Q and Vocal Spectrum.
In these difficult economic times, when many of the performing arts are in trouble, what better chance to be entertained while raising funds to keep the whole world singing. We want to fill the Honda Center on July 4th, raising the most funds ever in one day for Harmony Foundation. This will keep the Harmony Explosion Camps and Youth Harmony Workshops going, as well as funding the many other Harmony Foundation activities and scholarships that promote the future of barbershop.
There is personal satisfaction in putting together this lineup. Over the past few years, we have had the privilege of Jim Clancy, Jim Henry, David Wright and Greg Clancy speaking at our installation banquets, as well as enjoying joint afterglows with AOH after Nashville’s close contest and the VM in Montreal. When we hosted the International Convention 10 years ago, Jeff Oxley was our director; now he is the new assistant director of the VM. We share a bond and camaraderie with these men and their choruses, and we look forward to singing together for once, instead of competing!
