On Saturday, June 7, 2008, in a long planned and eagerly anticipated joint concert, the Masters of Harmony will be joined by one of America’s most storied choral groups, the University of Michigan Men’s Glee Club, winners of four international championships. Each chorus also features a small group of young men who prove that popular standards done in a cappella style can still wow a modern audience.
From the ranks of the Glee Club comes a group of eight men called The Friars. This group has a long history of entertaining audiences through a unique combination of vocal talent and light-hearted antics. Their songs include a cappella arrangements of such groups as The Platters, Big Bopper and Buddy Holly, and they have recorded nearly 20 CDs.
From the Masters comes one of the Barbershop Harmony Society’s most popular quartets, OC Times. Their music presents traditional barbershop harmony influenced by jazz, swing, and pop culture. The youthful energy and fresh musical styling of this talented foursome never fails to wow audiences.
All of this talent will be on display in one of the world’s most acoustically perfect venues, the Walt Disney Concert Hall, located in downtown Los Angeles. The confluence of choral talent in the city’s most prestigious theaters promises to be one of those once-in-a-lifetime events that become treasured memories for performers and attendees alike.
